DESCRIPTION:Why are individuals of Jewish descent at higher risk for geneti
 c-related cancers and diseases? In partnership with Sharsheret and JScreen
 \, an organization affiliated with Emory University that does both Reprodu
 ctive Carrier Screening and Hereditary Cancer Testing\, folks interested i
 n cancer screening or couples in the family-planning stages will learn fr
 om a local Genetic Counselor\, hear from community members who have benefi
 tted from carrier and cancer screening and learn how to mitigate their ris
 ks at this community-wide public health screening event.  \n\nThis event
  is being held at The JKC\, 5801 W 115th St\, Overland Park\, KS.\n\nPrese
 nted by Congregation Beth Torah\, B’nai Jehudah\, Congregation Beth Shal
 om\, and Jewish Experiences\, a Collaboration of The J and Jewish Federati
 on\nFeaturing Local Genetic Counselor Ilana Chilton\, MS\, CGC\n\nJewish g
 enetic screening plays an important role in supporting the health and cont
 inuity of the Jewish community. Many hereditary conditions\, including tho
 se associated with increased cancer risks (like BRCA1 and BRCA2 mutations)
  and various genetic diseases impacting reproductive health\, occur at hig
 her rates within Ashkenazi Jewish populations.\n\nBECOME EMPOWERED WITH TH
 E KNOWLEDGE TO MAKE INFORMED MEDICAL AND REPRODUCTIVE DECISIONS\n\nGenetic
  specialists and local individuals will share information about testing re
 sources and how cancer and carrier screening can prevent or prepare famili
 es to manage certain genetic conditions\, improving health outcomes and en
 hancing family well-being.\n\nTHIS EVENT IS FREE AND WILL BE FOLLOWED BY A
