  a journalist in December 2022 after a 37-year career in Kansas City\, wor
 king as a reporter and/or editor at the Kansas City Business Journal\, the
  Kansas City Star and KCUR\, the NPR affiliate in Kansas City. Over the co
 urse of his career\, he covered a variety of beats\, including business\, 
 legal affairs\, health care and politics. Before becoming a journalist\, h
 e was a lawyer. In April 2025\, he launched a Substack called "Notes from 
 KC" focused on national and regional politics. He has a bachelor’s degre
 e in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis and law and journa
