Kansas City community philanthropist, volunteer and author Karen B. Gerson shares her powerful personal journey of living with mental illness and the path toward hope and healing. “I Should Not Be Here” is a compassionate and deeply honest memoir, told through a Jewish lens, exploring the realities of mental illness through personal memories and the voices of loved ones.  The story offers: a mirror for those who are struggling, a guide for those supporting someone they love and a message of resilience, connection and hope.  Through using Parashat Bamidbar, her message is simple but profound: “You are not alone. You are not broken. You are still here, and that means there is still time for healing.”
