Dan Margolies retired as a journalist in December 2022 after a 37-year career in Kansas City, working as a reporter and/or editor at the Kansas City Business Journal, the Kansas City Star and KCUR, the NPR affiliate in Kansas City. Over the course of his career, he covered a variety of beats, including business, legal affairs, health care and politics. Before becoming a journalist, he was a lawyer. In April 2025, he launched a Substack called “Notes from KC” focused on national and regional politics. He has a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Washington University in St. Louis and law and journalism degrees from Boston University.
