Since our very beginnings, the wonder and awe evoked by the heaven’s expanse has been an essential aspect of Jewish spirituality, worship and wisdom. As philosopher, Abraham Joshua Heschel has written, “The beginning of awe is wonder, and the beginning of wisdom is awe.” So, for our Shabbat tisch and study on Friday, April 19, we will explore traditional Jewish texts on the insights gained by the Jewish spiritual discipline of looking up! Our study will take place only a few days following a total solar eclipse to be witnessed in wide swaths across the United States, so we will also share some personal and timely reflections.
